TALSS ICT Development services provide support to educators by developing and maintaining high quality learning resources specific to their needs and the needs of their students. The service's goals are:

  • To assist educators to provide the highest quality learning experience for students by developing academic skills to take control of their teaching environment
  • Creating learning and teaching resources which integrate information architecture across QUT

Core Business

Since 2006 TALSS Corporate Systems Developers have been working hard to migrate OLT websites to QUT Blackboard. In that time we have configured, extended or created countless Blackboard Building Blocks using a combination of Java and JSP. Some of these include:

  • Group Join Tool - Provides dynamic creation of a configurable number of Blackboard Groups within a Community or Unit site and facilitates student self join of groups.
  • Media File - Facilitates streaming Audio, Video and Multimedia download within a QUT Blackboard site.
  • Manage Teaching Team - Allows Website Coordinators to assign and modify admin permissions to their unit site.

Project Work

TALSS Multimedia Developers work with our Learning Designers and faculties to maximise student learning outcomes. Current Projects include:

  • Teamwork Protocol - A Flash/Flex diagnostic tool for academics to compare their practice with QUT’s Teamwork Protocol.
  • Teaching and Learning Development - Front page design of a QUT Blackboard community site and the prototype creation of interactive learning resources [see section 1.8].
