A leading principle of the QUT evaluation policy is that no one source of data should be used to inform your teaching and learning practice. Instead, it is recommended that multiple sources of data should be referred to when generating ideas for improvements and evaluating your performance. There are three main categories of supplementary evaluations you might like to consider - Student Evaluations (other than the LEX), Self Evaluations and Peer Evaluations.

Student Evaluations

There are many different ways to gain feedback from students about a variety of different areas. When deciding on which method to use you should first consider what the aim of the evaluation is. (ie Are you looking to see how students feel about the lectures, assignments, assessment; How they study or if they are aware of study resources you have made etc.). You should then consider which method to use to collect the information taking into consideration such things as cohort size or background, ease of response, class time etc. as well as remembering not to over survey your students.

Self Evaluations

  • Checklists to assist staff in self-evaluation of the teaching and learning themes that feature in the LEX are available on the Evaluation Resources Blackboard Community Site. To join the site, enter your Blackboard portal, click on the Community Tab and search for Evaluation Resources. Select that community and then click the enrol button which is located at the bottom right hand corner of the screen.

Peer Evaluation and Peer Partnering

  • Formal peer evaluations or informal peer partnering can be an effective way to work together with your teaching team of faculty colleagues to ensure the quality of teaching and learning in your unit. The checklists available on the Blackboard Evaluation Resource Community Site for each LEX question are an excellent starting point for discussion. To join the site, enter your Blackboard portal, click on the Community Tab and search for Evaluation Resources. Select that community and then click the enrol button which is located at the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
