Teaching and Learning Support Services (TALSS) offers a range of programs to support academics in developing critical, reflective and scholarly approaches to their teaching. These programs are designed for specific groups of academic staff including new, more experienced, full-time and sessional staff, as well as staff preparing teaching award or grant applications.

2009 Course dates will be available via StaffConnect in early January 2009.

Develop skills and strategies for engaging students

There are several programs offered regularly throughout the year to assist academics in developing their core teaching skills and strategies, including:

These programs are designed to help academics:

  • become familiar with the teaching context at QUT, as well as current research and innovations in teaching and learning
  • explore techniques for designing curriculum, assessment and ways to engage students
  • reflect on and evaluate your own teaching practices.

Learn to use QUT Blackboard effectively

QUT Blackboard is the University's learning management system. Unit web sites (available through QUT Blackboard) are a space for academics to upload materials and use a range of collaboration and assessment tools to create rich online learning environments for students.

Training programs for staff to use Blackboard are regularly available. Schools and sections can also request customized sessions.

Apply for a teaching award, grant or fellowship

There are a number of funding opportunities open to academic and professional staff, both within QUT and through the Australian Learning and Teaching Council, in the form of teaching awards, grants and fellowships. TALSS regularly offers workshops and personal consultations to assist staff in developing their applications.
